CNN Student News Report

Today on CNN Student News:

The well-known oil company BP®, owes the largest criminal fine is U.S. history. Back in 2010, a BP® oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded, leaking over 200 million gallons of oil into the surrounding waters. Serious environmental problems that had occurred on the U.S. Gulf of Mexico coastline had contributed to the massive debt owned by the company. Along with the already inflated debt, BP® will also pay 4.5 billion dollars that will cover other criminal charges and government penalties. BP® has also agreed to pay 20 billion dollars to cover damages caused by the spill, and nearly 8 billion dollars to private victims. It is suspected that from the time of the spill in 2010 to now, BP® has made almost 43 billion dollars in profits.
